When we took our kids to London this summer, my daughter Hannah, age 12, took hundreds of digital photos. Was she snapping the Tower, the Thames, or the Tube? No, she was taking pictures of herself, hand outstretched to capture her latest mood (usually dark).
Self-involved? Yes.
Artistically dull? Not necessarily. I actually grew to like the off beat angles, the London sky, and my daughter’s chin.
When we got back to California, Hannah returned to painting. This self-portrait, done from one of her London self-shoots, catches some of the ambience of the Digital Teen Age. The painting was too large to scan, so …. she took a picture of it with her cell phone.
Photo and painting by Hannah Reinhard.
