A bunch of freshmen, instructors, and I gathered yesterday afternoon for a D.I.Y. Valentines session. I combined luscious specialty papers from Paper Mojo with cardboard harvested from cereal boxes in order to curate a simple pop-up project. We also rebranded chocolate bars.

Freshman Terri Wang used simple strips of lovely handmade paper to create a look both abstract and traditional — with echoes, perhaps, of the art of Chinese paper cutting.
I enjoyed the buzz in the room — modest socializing, the intensity of creative focus, and a sense of anticipation for the weekend to come. Even those without a date went home with something sweet.
