During a visit to my friend Claudia’s house in Boston a few months ago, she proudly proclaimed that she uses bottled lime juiceāthe kind that comes in a plastic package shaped like a lime. Claudia is someone who knows her way around the kitchen. (That weekend, she made cinnamon buns from scratch, for breakfast.)
She is also money-conscious. “I’m sick of paying 75 cents or more for a single lime, and then finding it’s so dry on the inside you can hardly get any juice out of it.”
So here’s for the Summer of Bottled Lime Juice. Is it green? Probably not. But limes were never going to turn up in the farmers’ market in Baltimore anyway. For $1.39, you get a lot of juice, great for squirting on steaks before they hit the grill.
And I love the package.
